Venue

The workshop is going to be held at the headquarters of the Hungarian Meteorological Service (Kitaibel Pál utca 1, 1024 Budapest), close to the Széll Kálmán Square (Széll Kálmán tér). Webpage: www.met.hu.

Access the city centre from the airport
  • Taxi: main and trusted taxi company operating at the airport is Főtaxi. A trip to the city centre is around 7 000 HUF (23 EUR) per car. You can ask the taxi at the desks in front of the terminal buildings, they should inform you about the approximate price. More information: fotaxi.hu/?lang=en.
  • AirportShuttle-Minibus: it takes you to any location in Budapest with a fixed price, transport to the city centre costs 3 900 HUF (13 EUR) per person. You can order the service in the terminal buildings. At the airport you might wait a bit for the shuttle and you might not be the first dropped, therefore it could take more time to reach your destination. More information: www.minibud.hu/en.
  • Public transportation: advised to use only for persons who like challenges. In that case, please take the bus 200E to their final station called Kőbánya-Kispest. Afterwards you can travel by metro line 3 (M3). You can find useful information and a trip planner on the homepage of the Budapest Transport Company: www.bkk.hu/en/main-page/news. See below the price of the transport tickets.
Access the meeting place by public transportation
  • From the airport you have to take bus 200E to their final station called Kőbánya-Kispest. Afterwards you have to travel by metro line 3 (M3) to Nyugati pályaudvar, then take tram 4 or 6 (in direction of Széll Kálmán tér) to Mechwart liget.
  • From the railway stations:
    • From railway station Déli pályaudvar: you have to take metro line 2 (M2) or tram 61/17 to Széll Kálmán tér (1 stop), afterwards by walk (see the map).
    • From railway station Keleti pályaudvar: you have to travel by metro line 2 (M2) (in direction of Déli pályaudvar) to Széll Kálmán tér, then by walk (see the map).

Transport tickets

Tickets can be purchased at the major public transport hubs, newspaper stands and on buses on the spot (this latter one costs more).
  • Single ticket: valid for one uninterrupted trip for metro, bus, tram, trolleybus, suburban railway. Transfers are allowed only on the metro network. It costs 350 HUF;
  • Transfer ticket: equivalent with two single tickets, 530 HUF;

  • Budapest 72-hour travelcard (=pass): HUF 4 150;
  • Budapest 5-day travelcard (=pass): HUF 4 550;
  • Budapest 7-day travelcard (=pass): HUF 4 950.
Note that outside the airport terminal ticket vending machines are already available (credit cards are accepted as well). More information about public transport and the prices: www.bkk.hu/en and www.bkk.hu/en/prices.

Useful to know
  • 1 EUR equals 314 HUF as of 27 May. Changing money at the airport/train station is not recommended due to bad conversion rates and high commission. Within downtown, all places are trustworthy and try to pick a place where there is low conversion taxes.
  • Metro and HÉV (suburban railway) systems operate until 11:30-11:45pm. Public transportation company offers night bus service operating mainly every 15-60 minutes (passes are valid), but tram 6 is on all night-service every 10-15 minutes.
  • Should you arrive at the airport very late, note that last 200E bus leaves at 0:21am, and since no metro operates any longer, go to final destination of last 200E (Határ út) and change to the night bus service (914-950), which takes you to downtown. Another option is taxi and airport shuttle (minibus).
